During
2004, CURE funded several community-based projects.
In collaboration with the Imperial Valley Center for
New Frontiers, CURE funded the public pool in Calexico,
which otherwise would have been closed due to municipal
budget cuts.
CURE also has funded an effort by
the National Farmworkers Council to assist individuals
on fixed incomes to obtain reductions in electricity
costs and to weatherize their homes. The Imperial Valley
has the highest temperatures in the United States during
summer months and some citizens pay over 33% of their
income on air conditioning.
Finally, CURE assisted the City of Calexico in purchasing
a surplus Armory for conversion into a multi-generational
recreational and community center. CURE continues to
support fundraising efforts to convert the Armory to
a multi-generational center to promote leadership, parenting
and recreation courses.
